What HVAC Scrap Is Worth
HVAC systems contain significant quantities of copper, aluminum, and brass — all high-value scrap metals. A typical commercial HVAC system teardown can yield hundreds of pounds of copper refrigerant lines, aluminum coils, and brass components.
Copper Refrigerant Lines
Copper refrigerant tubing (ACR copper) is typically Copper #1 or Copper #2 grade depending on cleanliness. Stripped, clean copper lines pay $3.60–$4.00/lb. Lines with insulation still attached pay less — strip the insulation for maximum value.
Aluminum Evaporator and Condenser Coils
Aluminum coils from air handlers and condensers are worth $0.45–$0.65/lb clean. Remove the copper headers and fittings and sell them separately at copper prices for maximum payout.
