About Hastelloy Scrap

Hastelloy is a family of nickel-molybdenum-chromium superalloys manufactured by Haynes International. The high molybdenum content (15–28%) gives Hastelloy exceptional resistance to hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and other aggressive chemicals — making it the material of choice for chemical processing, pharmaceutical, and pollution control applications.

Hastelloy C-276 — The Most Common Grade

Hastelloy C-276 (57% Ni, 16% Mo, 15% Cr) is the most widely used Hastelloy grade. It is found in chemical reactors, heat exchangers, scrubbers, and piping systems in chemical plants and pharmaceutical facilities. Plant shutdowns from these industries generate large quantities of C-276 scrap.

Identifying Hastelloy

Hastelloy is non-magnetic, silver-gray, and extremely corrosion resistant. It is often found in chemical processing equipment with "C-276," "C-22," or "HASTELLOY" stamped on it. XRF testing confirms the grade. Mill certifications command the premium rate.
