Why Inconel Scrap Is So Valuable
Inconel is a family of nickel-chromium superalloys developed for extreme temperature and corrosion resistance. The high nickel content (50–70%) is what drives the scrap value — nickel trades at $7–$9/lb on the LME, and Inconel contains far more nickel per pound than stainless steel.
How to Identify Inconel
Inconel is non-magnetic (or very weakly magnetic), silver-gray in color, and extremely hard to machine. It is commonly found in jet engine components (turbine blades, combustion chambers, exhaust systems), gas turbine parts, chemical processing vessels, and offshore oil & gas equipment. Mill certifications (MTRs) confirming the grade allow us to pay the maximum rate.
Inconel 625 vs 718 — Price Difference
Inconel 625 (58% Ni, 21% Cr, 9% Mo) is the most common grade and commands the highest price due to its molybdenum content. Inconel 718 (52% Ni, 19% Cr, 5% Nb) is the most widely used aerospace grade and is slightly lower in value. Both are extremely high-value compared to stainless steel.
